The original plan for today was to day trip to Jerez de la Frontera, but that plan was scrapped for a few reasons - the main attractions there are visiting the Sherry bodegas, which may not be open on New Year's day, and watching one of the famous equestrian shows, which almost certainly will not be available outside of the summer. The last reason was that after last night, we didn't get going until after 11:00 AM, not giving us much time in Jerez, since it's a 1.5 hour bus ride each way. After finding breakfast, we made our way over to Plaza de Espana, via Puerta de Jerez. Neither of us remembered Sevilla very well, given that the first trip here was during the hellishly hot month of August, which probably cooked our brains, erasing any memories we had. We did hit up all the sights during that time but not much strolling was done, as we hid out in the hotel every afternoon, trying to escape the brutal 42 C heat. Sevilla is an absolutely stunning city but the first time here, none of us could see the magic that the guidebook suggests Sevilla has. We chalked that up to the fact that the city is deserted during August, since the locals are smart enough to leave the city and the heat behind. But ...
